These items were sold as souvenirs to pilgrims and tourists in Jerusalem. Bringing home actual, pressed flora from sacred sites was a meaningful way to commemorate a journey. This tradition was popular from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century. They were often sold as full albums or books (sometimes with covers made of olive wood) or as individual framed pictures, like this one.
