Description

1896 Liberty V Nickel Coin in Fair condition, see photos. The 1896 Liberty Head "V" Nickel is a fascinating and sought-after issue for collectors of classic United States coinage. Struck entirely at the Philadelphia Mint during a period of economic recovery following the Panic of 1893, it features Charles E. Barber’s iconic design of Lady Liberty wearing a coronet on the obverse and a large Roman numeral "V" nestled inside a wreath on the reverse. With a low mintage of just 8,342,615 pieces, the 1896 issue stands out as a better-date coin within the series. Because nickels were heavily circulated workhorse coins in late 19th-century commerce, finding an 1896 specimen can be a rare find.
