Description
1946 Jefferson Nickel Coin in Good condition, see photos. The 1946 Jefferson Nickel marks an important transition in United States coinage as the U.S. Mint returned to the coin's original composition of 75% copper and 25% nickel following the end of World War II. Beginning in 1946, the Mint resumed using the traditional alloy and restored the smaller mintmark to its familiar location beside Monticello on the reverse. Designed by Felix Schlag, the coin features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson on the obverse and his historic Virginia estate, Monticello, on the reverse. As the first regular-issue Jefferson nickel produced after the wartime silver issues, the 1946 coin is an important piece for collectors of U.S. coinage and a classic addition to any Jefferson nickel collection.
